University of Groningen students present backcasing methodology for Island Schools project

26 January 2023

Yesterday students from University of Groningen, Vannak, Seun and Kemi, presented their research for the Island Schools project. Their objective was to discover an appropriate methodology that can be used in a backcasting tool as lesson materials that address education and life on the island.

They discussed their research methods, findings from the data collected, and conclusions and recommendations regarding methodology for a backcasting tool in future programs as well as how it could be used to discuss Island schools’ transportation for education and work purposes.

We were fascinated to hear how they introduced the concept of backcasting to the young students, and how they collected information through focus group discussions, focusing on “What do students want to see as the future of their island” and looking at the steps they must make to achieve that.
